Althea Grant’s Charleston gallery might be suffering from the bad economy, and her artistic aspirations have gone nowhere, but she’s doing just fine, thank you. When bad-boy sculptor Steel rides up on his motorcycle looking to rent studio space, his infusion of cash is more than welcome. But his art is raw, visceral, sexual—and completely inappropriate for her pastel world of watercolor landscapes.

Steel, fascinated by Althea’s rare albino coloring, sees in her the key to his next piece: a metal satyr designed for bondage games. Moving into her gallery basement is the first step; seducing the cool Southern belle into modeling for him is the second.

As Steel peels away her careful manners and tasteful outfits, Althea begins to realize her life isn’t just fine at all—it’s as pale and washed-out as the watercolor paintings she’s failing to sell. Can she transform her life and accept her most secret desires?

Thea comes has been raised in true southern fashion with affluent parents.  She owns an art gallery and shows water color paintings that can be found in any other gallery in the historic district.  Business has been slow and she is afraid she is going to have to close until Steel walks into her life and she starts to see things in a new light.  She is no longer satisfied with just going through the motions she wants more but will it be enough to save her gallery?

Thea is an albino with rare coloring.  She typically wears pastels because bold colors tend to wash her out.  She stays out of the sun and leads a quiet life.  She has a boyfriend but when she meets Steel but when he asks her to break up with him she really looks at their relationship.  She realizes that something is missing in her relationship with Brandon as well as her life and starts making changes.

Steel challenges her and starts pulling her out of her shell.  He convinces her to model for him and starts to bring out the fire in her that has been hiding below the surface.  I loved seeing her grow and come out of her shell and I think Steel was good for her.  The sex scenes were super hot and ultimately Thea was always the one in charge.  I think the author handled the scene when Thea used her safe word with Steel very well.

Overall I enjoyed this story and can’t wait to read the third one in this series.  I give  Platinum 4 Flaming Hearts.  4 Hearts

Matilda Campbell’s plans to spend Christmas solo in the sun take an erotic turn when she encounters the handsome and enigmatic Miguel D’Oro on the plane to Mexico. As the CEO of a major firm, Tilda’s used to being the one in charge—but now she’ll have to learn how to take orders instead.

In the spirit of the season, Miguel offers Tilda naughty gifts for each of the twelve days of Christmas. There’s just one rule: she must accept them—and fulfill his commands—or face the sensual consequences. Intrigued and aroused, Tilda agrees to let Miguel take control of her pleasure.

What follows is a week unlike anything she’s ever experienced. From choosing her sexy new wardrobe and naughty accessories, to pushing her boundaries with BDSM play, Miguel satisfies every forbidden craving. But as their time together runs out, she must decide if there’s room in her real life for her holiday lover and her newly discovered kinky side.

Matilda’s plans change at the last minute when her boyfriend backs out on their Christmas vacation.  She decides to go ahead and take advantage of the plans they have already made, even if she has to go alone.  She never expected to meet someone on the plane that would turn her life upside down.

Miguel intrigues Tilda and she can’t believe she’s agreeing to submit totally to him during her time in Mexico.  She has always been in control of every aspect of her life and she soon discovers that she likes having someone else making the decisions for her.  She gives herself up 100% to the experience and never looks back.  Each day brings new tests to her limits not only sexually but mentally and physically as well.  In the end, Tilda/Roo discovers that she is tired of settling when it comes to her love life and plans to make some changes when she gets home.

This was a sexy story about testing limits and finding yourself. Each day, Miguel surprises Roo with a kinky gift from the Twelve Days of Christmas.  Some stretch her limits more than others but she refuses to use her safe word.  She finds the whole experience freeing and wants to enjoy the whole experience.

Both Tilda and Miguel are searching for something but neither is sure what they need.  The more they are together, the more they see that there is something they are missing in the other.  In the beginning they both looked at the experience as a vacation affair and things slowly evolve into something more.  They are a good fit and I am glad they figured out a way to make things work.

Overall I enjoyed the story and couldn’t wait to see what Miguel had in store for Roo each day.  I give Five Golden Rings 4 Flaming Hearts.    4 Hearts

A Siberian Werewolf in ParisA Siberian Werewolf in Paris (Volkov Pack #5) by Caryn Moya Block
* I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Valerii Belikov, Siberian lycanthrope, knew that under the baseball cap and grubby jeans “Little Joe MacDonald” was actually Josephine. He didn’t know why she was hiding, but when the mating bond snapped into place after she was injured, he never expected her to run away. Josie is his mate, the one woman meant to be his, and should have known they couldn’t live apart. He could accept her hiding, but there was no way he could give her up.

Josephine Chevalier knew this day would come. Her father’s killers had found her. To keep her pack mates in England safe, she needed to run. It was time to return to Paris where it all started five years ago. Now if only Valerii, the man she wanted above all others, would stay away. Looking down at the golden cord tying their hearts together, she realized he would come. How could she keep him safe?

Josie and her family were kidnapped from their Paris home where her parents were the pack leaders.  Her father was killed during experiments and her mother soon followed him.  With the help of a young scientist, Josie manages to escape and has been on the run ever since.  She lives life ready to run at a moment’s notice and tries to blend in with others around her.  She has found a safe haven with the London pack but her past has managed to sneak up on her, along with the mating bond she wasn’t expecting.  Now her only option to keep those she loves safe is to return to Paris and face the evil stalking her.

Valerii has known that Josie was hiding something but he never realized that she was the alpha heir of the Paris werewolf pack.  When the mating bond snaps into place, he can’t believe that he has found the one for him.  He can’t wait to share everything with her and show her what it means to be a mate until he realizes that she has ran from him, taking his money with her.  He has no intention of letting someone else protect his mate, that’s his job and he takes it very seriously.  His mate isn’t happy that he followed her but a very wise woman on the train convinced her that she and Valerii are stronger together than apart.

Together these two take on the not only the Paris pack’s problems but the organization that kidnapped her family and killed her father, Doctors for a Better Humanity.  They are still learning each other but the mating bond helps with that and as the story progresses they learn to trust and depend on each other.  They are well matched and a strong Alpha couple.  I love how Valerii just steps in and automatically takes over directing the Paris pack once she has made her claim.  He is a good person that cares about his fellow wolves, which was evident when he rescues Bijou, her brother and his mate.

I love that Josie is a strong female and wants to take care of things.  She has had a hard time since she lost her parents but she has managed to take care of herself.  She is now ready to go home and face her captors and her former pack; it’s the only way she can keep her mate safe.  Valerii was there for her and did what he could to take care of her but he still let her be involved and do what she needed to do too.

The book has interesting secondary characters that add to the complexity of the story.  One of my favorites was Josie’s grandmother, the scene with her and Valerii on the train was great.   I think the author does a good job with the background descriptions of the key players too.  This is the fifth book in the series but I was able to read it as a standalone and enjoy the story without being lost.  I would like to go back and read other stories in this series.  My only complaint was in the formatting, there were several areas where the story was out of context and all jumbled up.  I don’t know if it had to with the kindle conversion or not but it did make it difficult to follow at times.

Overall I really enjoyed this story and plan on picking up other’s in this series.  I give A Siberian Werewolf in Paris 4 Flaming Hearts. 4 Hearts

Red as a RoseRed as a Rose by DF Krieger *

In this sexy retelling of Red Riding Hood, danger abounds. Can a seductive witch save the big bad wolf she finds in her grandmother’s bed? Or will she fall prey not only to the woodsmen that hunt him, but the lure of her own powers?Tobias, mortally wounded from a silver tipped arrow, seeks healing from the notorious hedge witch, Scarlet Hood. What he doesn’t expect is to find Scarlet has passed away. Her granddaughter, Rose, is everything a big bad wolf could want. With woodsmen hot on his trail, Tobias must decide whether to accept his new life, or die all over again.Rose didn’t want to take up the red hood her grandmother left her, nor any of the responsibilities that came with it. Wielding a power that loves the dead more than the living, she finds it hard to accept the idea of becoming a healer. When she finds a werewolf in her grandma’s bed, she has to choose between what is right, and what feels right but is so very wrong.

Red as a Rose is not your typical tale of Red Riding Hood, this short story is sexy and full of spice.  Tobias and his family are attacked by the huntsmen and he barely escapes with his life.  He is wounded and barely makes it to the witch’s house for help but things aren’t as he remembered.

Rose has just buried her grandmother and now she is expected to take over for her.  Rose’s magic loves the dead and now she is expected to be a healer.  When she finds the man in her grandmother’s bed, she can’t resist just one kiss.  She never expected things to turn out like they did.

The two of them have amazing chemistry.  I loved how even though he was under her power, he still had a mind of his own where she is concerned.  Both are strong in their own right and each has their own magic, it makes them a good pair.   The two of them will be good for each other.

The ending was great and not what I expected.  They were creative in their defeat of the huntsmen and what was left of Tobias family was saved.   I also liked the fact that although she wields power over him, she gave him the choice of life or death.

Although this is a short story, it is full of action and extremely sexy.  It’s not the story you remember from your childhood but it’s definitely worth the read.  I give Red as a Rose 4 Flaming Hearts.   4 Hearts

Sweetly BadSweetly Bad by Anya Breton
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Drew couldn’t imagine anything worse than being stranded in a two-cellular-bar town with a broken-down Ferrari…until his mother—his own mother!—marked him as a rogue Air witch and canceled all his credit cards. Now he’s kill-on-sight in the Underground, and the only person willing to help him is the curvy human mechanic who towed his car. A strangely delectable curvy human mechanic.

The last thing Erica needs is a yuppie playboy freeloading in her garage. Still, she can’t bring herself to turn Drew out into the sultry heat, even if he is a bit of an ass. A gorgeous, incorrigible, everything-your-mother-warned-you-against ass. Soon the heat isn’t the only thing sultry in the garage and self-control is the last thing on her mind. They agree to a one-night stand, but Drew’s magical secrets are dangerous—and catching up to him fast.

Erica is a self-sufficient female that lives in a small town.  She has had to prove herself as a mechanic ever since her father passed away and left her the garage.  Things have been tight around the garage and when she gets the call to pick up a stranded Ferrari, she hopes things will start to turn around for her.  The owner is the typical rich playboy with an attitude and no money to pay for the repairs.  On top of everything, her ex-boyfriend is harassing her to sell him her garage and he is trying to take her business from her.

Drew has never had a problem getting women and suddenly the one he wants, doesn’t want anything to do with him.  He is stranded in a two-bar cell town with no money and rogue status.  His mom and everyone have abandoned him and he has witches on his trail.  Along the way, he not only begins to realize what a jerk he has become and that he doesn’t like himself very much.  His sexy mechanic makes him desire to be a better person and prove himself to her.

I loved Erica, she is a typical female with curves that has the same doubts an fears every other female has.  She doesn’t think she is pretty and worries that she needs to lose weight.  She is also self-sufficient.  She owns her own garage and she can hang with the boys when it comes to fixing cars.  Strange occurrences are causing her to doubt her work when the cars are ending up at her ex’s shop.  Now she has a sexy playboy that is broke staying with her.  She sees something in him that he doesn’t even see in himself.  She decides to take a chance and agrees to a one night stand with him but she never dreamed she would lose her heart to him.

Drew was a fun character that you just wanted to hit upside his head sometimes.  He is obstinate and self-absorbed and when he realizes that he is broke and marked a rogue, he thinks his life is over.  Being around Erica helps him realize what a jerk he has been and he doesn’t like himself very much.  She took a chance on him when everyone else turned them back on him, no money and all.  He wants to do something nice for her to show her he’s not the jerk she believes he is.  In the end, he realizes that money isn’t everything and he has been living his life for everyone but himself.

Even though this was a short story, it was nice to see the transition in Drew.  He starts out as a pompous, spoiled brat that has to re-evaluate his life.  They worked well together and had good chemistry.  Drew didn’t always know the right thing to say but in the end he figured out that money doesn’t solve all you problems.   He figured out what he wanted out of life and Erica is the key.

Overall I really enjoyed this book; it featured a curvy, self-sufficient woman and was a great read.  I give Sweetly Bad 4 Flaming Hearts. 4 Hearts

Rocky Mountain Angel #4Rocky Mountain Angel (Six Pack Ranch #4) by Vivian Arend
* I received this ARC free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Allison Parker needs a convincing excuse to come home to Rocky Mountain House. A hopelessly romantic reason that won’t let her mother suspect the truth—that Allison has discovered Mom is keeping a terrible secret from the family.

Gabe Coleman is struggling with two of the roughest parts of ranching: dealing with his bull-headed mule of a father, and making enough to pay the bills. When his old friend Allison offers to help him develop his ideas for organic ranching—in trade for pretending to be her fiancé—it sounds like the perfect set-up.

Yet the deception leads them in an unexpected direction, where their shared daily hells are erased by nights of heavenly distraction. It’s not supposed to be real, but once the gates are opened, there’s no denying they’ve found in each other a little bit of Paradise.

To break free of the past and face the future, though, will take more than temporary pleasures. It’ll take putting their hearts on the line.

Warning: Tortured hero with a guardian-angel complex, grief-stricken heroine willing to sacrifice everything for family. Break out the tissues, this trip to the ranch is a heartbreaker on the way to the HEA.

Gabe Coleman is struggling with the making their ranch profitable, while dealing with his father who refuses to adapt with the changing times.  His father puts him down every chance he gets and never lets him forget that he blames him for his brother’s death.  Gabe has a lot on his shoulders but still manages to be there for friends and family when they need him.  When Allison shows up on his doorstep with an offer that will benefit them both, he can’t help but agree to her plan.  He just didn’t realize that he would lose his heart in the process.

Allison’s mom is keeping a secret that will destroy her brother and sister.  She has to find a convincing way to move home without raising her mom’s suspicion and Gabe Coleman seems to be the perfect answer.  She offers to help him with the farm in exchange for him acting as her finance.  Everything seems to be going as planned until she starts to develop real feelings for Gabe.

I love these two together.  They are so good for each other; each provides something the other has been missing from their lives.  Gabe has been struggling with his brother’s death for years and his father hasn’t helped matters either with his anger toward him.  He spends his time working on the family farm while helping out friends and family when needed.  When Allison comes to him with her plan to move back home, he can’t bear to say no to her.

After Allison finds out her mother’s secret, she would do anything to spare her brother and sister the grief they went through when their father died.  She hatches a plan that will let her move home and be there for her family, with the help of Gabe.  She doesn’t realize how much she will come to rely on him and he will mean to her.

The two of them are so perfect for one another.  They are there for each other while helping to heal old wounds.  Gabe always tries to do the right thing but with his father always telling him he is worthless, he has a lot of self-doubt.  Allison helps him see that he is worthy of love and loving someone.  Gabe is Allison’s rock, he is there for her throughout her mother’s illness and makes not only her days better but her mother’s too.  She comes to rely on him when she has a rough day and they both tend to lean on each other when needed.

They have excellent chemistry and I loved the fact that they didn’t just jump into bed with each other, even though they have known each other for a long time.  They didn’t let the sex complicate their relationship, but let the chemistry build naturally with them.  The scene by the lake was full of sexy fun.  I think one of my favorite scenes was the one in the rain at the end, very sweet.

The story focuses on Gabe and Allison but several of the other Coleman clan was mentioned in the story too.  We are also introduced to a few new members of the family and Allison’s family too.  It was a great read that I truly enjoyed.  I give Rocky Mountain Angel 4½ Flaming Hearts.  4.5 Hearts

But when a trip to visit her parents reveals a devastating truth about her mother, Charlotte knows she is trapped in her loveless marriage. When Jake confides in her about a risky business deal in the works, he offers her a way out. But will it be too little, too late?

The Gin Lovers is a six part series about life and times of the twenties during prohibition that focuses on the Delacorte family.  During this trying time Charlotte is learning a lot about herself and her relationship with her husband; she doesn’t like what she sees and starts things in motion to do something about it.

Society Sinners picks up right where book two left off.  Charlotte is exploring life outside of her marriage with hottie, Jake.  He makes her realize what it’s like to have someone love her properly and now she can’t look at her husband the same way.  She starts thinking about the future but after an impromptu visit home, things change and she realizes that she may not be able to make the changes that she would like to.

The longer Charlotte stays married to her husband, the more she starts to hate her life.  She starts making small changes to her appearance, first with a shopping spree with Mae and now a trip to the beauty salon.  She is expected to be the role model for their family and her sister-in-law Mae but in truth, Mae is showing her how to live.

Charlotte knows that her husband is up to something and it can’t be good based on what she found in his office.  She is also starting to suspect that there is more than friendship between him and Amelia.  In some respects I think she would be relieved if there was something going on between William and Amelia because it would let her “off the hook” so to speak.    William is a product of the society during that time period.  He believes in trying to protect his family name and image and that women are meant to take care of the home.

It was nice to see the stories of the other characters continuing and I can’t wait to see what is going to happen with the rest of the story, especially how this one ended.   I enjoyed this installment in the series and am looking forward to reading the next installment.  I give Society Sinners 3½ Flaming Hearts.  3.5 Hearts
