Dirty #2Dirty, Miss Chatterley #2 by Logan Belle
* I received this ARC free from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review*

Consumed by desire, Connie’s body yields to Mellor’s outrageous demands even as her heart yearns for her sweet, steady boyfriend. Connie reaches out to Cliff to save their relationship but he is too distracted exploring a different sort of temptation—the promise of quick and easy money from the shifty Tommy Dukes. Can Connie stop Cliff before he makes an epic mistake? Can she stop herself before she falls too far to ever come back?

Connie is beside herself with guilt after her latest workout session and she isn’t looking forward to her weekend with Cliff.  She can’t get Cliff to change his mind but she is saved when he has a crisis at Chatterbox.  Even though she is mad as hell at him for choosing work over her, she is also relieved.  She fully intends to end things with Mellors but things don’t always go as planned.  Will it be too late to save her relationship with Cliff?

Connie is still battling with self-doubt and boredom.  She doesn’t have anything to occupy her days while Cliff is spending hours at Chatterbox.  They are having problems in the bedroom and she’s afraid that Cliff isn’t attracted to her anymore.  Connie puts her energy into working out and her art but every time she tries to draw it seems that Mellors is her inspiration.

She knows what she did was wrong but she is drawn to Mellors and can’t seem to walk away from him.  He is their Crossfit coach and Cliff is super excited about them training together.  If she can only convince Mellors to drop them as clients, she won’t have to be the bad guy.

To me, Cliff is oblivious to what is going on between him and Connie.  He is so wrapped up with Chatterbox that he doesn’t realize that their relationship is falling apart.  He spends more time with his “assistant” Ivy than he does at home.  Ivy has an ulterior motive for everything she does and thinks that by working with Tom Dukes she is going to achieve the financial success she desires.  Tom Dukes is only out for himself and he will get what he wants no matter what it takes or who gets hurt in the process.

Even though these are short stories, it doesn’t take long to become fully vested in these characters.  I don’t agree with what Connie is doing, but I still don’t want her to get caught.  What she is going through is not uncommon and I can understand the need to feel desirable and Mellors provides that for her.  He may be sexy but Cliff is the one that is going to be there for her through thick and thin.  Connie just needs to take a step back and look at her relationship with Mellors and determine whether or not she is willing to “walk away”.

I loved the second installment of this series; it moved quickly and was very sexy.  I love the characters and can’t wait to see how everything is going to play out.  I know that Ivy and Tom Dukes are going to cause trouble for Cliff and Connie somehow.  Overall I enjoyed this installment and give Miss Chatterley II: Dirty 3½ Flaming Hearts.  3.5 Hearts

Hungry Miss Chatterly #1 - Logan BelleHungry, Miss Chatterley #1 by Logan Belle
* I received this ARC free from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review*

Connie Chatterley isn’t exactly thrilled about the move to Palo Alto. What will she do in the land of tech billionaires and IPOs? But when her boyfriend Cliff says he needs to do it for his company, she agrees. Isn’t compromise a part of every good relationship?  Once in California, Cliff spends all his time with his demanding assistant Ivy Bolton and shark-like investment banker Tommy Dukes, leaving Connie with nothing better to do than go to the gym. But when she starts training with rugged CrossFit coach Oliver Mellors, Connie feels a dangerous attraction to the sexy stranger. And after one shocking moment of weakness, the move isn’t the only thing Connie starts to question.

Connie and Cliff have been together for four years in New York.  Connie has just graduated from college and has plans to start her master’s program in the fall.  Cliff is an up and coming software designer and his future is in Silicon Valley.  Can he convince Connie to give up her dreams and family and follow him to California?

Connie is having trouble fitting in now that they have moved to California.  It seems like Cliff doesn’t desire her anymore, much less have any time for her.  He spends all his time at Chatterbox with his assistant Ivy and Connie is feeling dejected.  She and Cliff are invited to a party at Tommy Dukes house but things with the Mr. Dukes aren’t what they seem.  He has an agenda where Cliff is concerned and Connie doesn’t trust him.  Ivy, on the other hand, has become his eyes and ears into Chatterbox.

After seeing the CrossFit trainer at the local gym, Connie decides to give it a try.  The sexy trainer, Oliver Mellors, puts her through the paces and she almost doesn’t go back but there is something about him that pulls her back for more.  After a particular grueling session in the park, things between them are taken to a new level and it could jeopardize her relationship with Cliff.

I haven’t read the original Lady Chatterley’s Lover but I loved this take on it.  The first installment is mainly an introduction to the characters and background about the situation.  It’s easy to see the connection between Cliff and Connie from the beginning and the issues that they are facing are issues that a lot of people face in everyday life.  The characters are likeable and interesting and I wanted more, especially the way the first installment ended.  I give Hungry, Miss Chatterley Part 1 3½ Flaming Hearts.  3.5 Hearts

Gin Lovers #2Little White Lies (Gin Lovers #2) by Jamie Brenner
* I received this ARC free from the author/NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Charlotte’s cloistered, high society world quickly spirals out of control as she discovers her husband, William, is keeping some big – and potentially dangerous – secrets. Unsure of who to trust Charlotte falls deeper into the thrall of sexy Jake Larkin and New York’s ever-exhilarating and increasingly carnal jazz scene. Charlotte must decide where her true loyalties lie? With a man she has just met or a husband she barely knows?

The 2nd installment in the Gin Lovers series picks up right where the first one left off.  Charlotte is surer than ever that her husband is up to something but she just can’t figure out what.  He is gone on “business trips” more than he is home and his is hiding large amounts of cash and a gun in his office.

Charlotte’s sister-in-law Mae is fit to be tied.  She helps Charlotte spice up her wardrobe with something more fitting of the times and then end up in a club in Harlem listening to jazz greats before they were great.  During the night, Charlotte becomes more enthralled with Jake Larkin.

During prohibition the DEA were out to shut down the clubs that sold alcohol and whatever cost necessary.  This story doesn’t disappoint.  There are undercover cops, speakeasies, Jazz and lots of alcohol throughout the book.  The club owners will do everything they can to keep their clubs in business, including making their customers “happy.”

Charlotte steps outside her comfort zone and really starts to experience life with the help of Mae and Jake.  She married into the Delacorte family but didn’t really know what she was getting into, especially after her mother-in-law passed away.  She was expected to take her place and be the role model society and her husband wanted.  She is tired of being on “display” all the time and not allowed to mess up or be herself.  She always dressed prim and proper and when Mae introduced her to the new styles she fell in love with the freedom she felt while wearing the scandalous dress.

Jake is an interesting character and he is fascinated by Charlotte and she is drawn to him.  I am not usually a proponent of affairs, you can’t help put pull for the two of them, especially the more we find out about her husband William.  I can’t wait to see how this whole situation is going to end – I can see it ending very badly if William ever finds out about Jake Larkin.

I loved that we got to see characters introduced in the first story, like Mae and the butler.  They added to the growing story and I can only imagine the roles they will play in the next few installments.  Will the butler be an ally to Charlotte or an enemy and will Mae ever get to live her own life.  Big brother has taken over her finances and life and he expects Charlotte to be her baby sitter while he is off on another business trip.

This period has always interested me and I love reading stories set in twenties, especially ones that have sexy men and woman in it.  I thought the second installment in this series was better and can’t wait to see where the author goes with this serial.  I give Little White Lies 3 ½ Flaming hearts.   3.5 Hearts

Deja VoodooDeja Voodoo (Cajun Magic #3) by Elle James
* I received a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review*

A little magic goes a long way…

Alexandra Belle Boyette is closing in on the big 3-0 and her mama has made it her mission to marry her off. In the tiny parish of Bayou Miste, deep in the Louisiana swamps, finding suitable hubby material can be a challenge—and Alex would rather not rely on magical spells to do the trick. But there is a sexy new man in town who might fit the bill…

Ed Marceaux is in Bayou Miste to safeguard a key witness to a Louisiana Mafia murder. He must keep an eye out for suspicious characters—but the place seems to be full of them! What could be stranger than a woman dressed in a sexy nightgown chasing a naked man down the street? The enchantingly gorgeous Alex Boyette certainly makes it worth his while to find out…

Add a Voodoo spell gone wrong, and voila! madness—and love—ensues.

Alex has everything in life she wants, her own home, a business that she loves and plenty of friends and family.  Now that her brother Ben has moved to New Orleans it’s up to her to help her mom take care of her brothers and sisters.  Her life is full and she doesn’t have time for romance but Ed makes her start to realize that there is something missing in her life.  Her mother’s matchmaking doesn’t help either.

Ed is not happy about being stuck in Bayou Miste but it’s the safest place to hide their star witness.  He is staying in the Boyette’s rental cottage and finds himself firmly in the middle of the Boyette family.  There is something about Ben’s family that draws Ed in, especially Alex.  He can’t seem to stop thinking about Alex ever since he saw her running through town in her nightie.  Has this confirmed bachelor met his match and will he still have a chance with her once his secret comes out?

Alex is such a strong female, she has been helping her mom take care of all her brothers and sisters since their dad passed away and she feels like she has to be there.  She takes them fishing and teaches them self-defense to help her mother out.  Even though she loves dinners with her family, she will do anything in her power to get out of them because her mom is constantly trying to fix her up.  Ed is the newest candidate and he starting to make her question her life.

Everything in Alex’s life gets turned upside down starting with a voodoo spell that turns her dog into a man.  Her friend Lucie, has her best interest at heart but they never anticipated Calliope getting hurt in the process.  Sport is enjoying being a man and learning new things but he can’t shake some of his dog like behaviors.  Calliope has always adored Alex’s dog Sport and now that he’s a man, she can’t help falling in love with him.  In the end, their love for Alex outweighs everything else.

Ed is sexy and a real man.  He believes he will be a bachelor for the rest of his life because he’s married to his job, but Alex makes him question his future.  His protective instincts kick in around Alex and the more he’s around her, the more he starts to fall for her.  He hopes that what is building between them won’t be ruined when she finds out the truth about him.

I think these two are so good together.  They fill a need in each other that neither knew they had.  They both believe they are content with their lives and have everything they could possibly need.  Neither realizes that they are lacking human contact and love until they find each other.  Their chemistry is evident from the beginning and they steam the pages up when they finally hook up.

They story is full of interesting characters that add depth to the story and help set the scenes.  There is just enough history about the town and its inhabitants without overpowering the main story while adding to the atmosphere.  It was nice to see Ben and Lucie back and I love Lucie’s grandmother, she is awesome.  I also loved the intrigue that went along with the story, it was just enough not to detract from Ed and Alex’s story.

Overall I really enjoyed the last installment in the Cajun magic series but I wish Calliope would’ve had some closure too.  I give Deja Voodoo 4 Flaming Hearts.    4 Hearts
