Touch Me by Callie Croix – Release Date 1/2/12
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Arriving home on leave from his tour of duty, Army Captain Alex Montoya knows there’s a beautiful woman waiting for him—his best friend’s sister. She’s always been off limits…until now. He fully intends to move them out of being “just friends” and encourage her to release the sexual needs he senses she’s buried deep.

Tianna McIntyre is starting over after her marriage ended. Her ex-husband weakened her self-esteem and caused her to deny her true sexual desires. But being around Alex brings all her dormant fantasies to the surface, and now Tianna feels the stirrings of her secret, submissive wishes.

Determined to help repair the damage Tianna’s ex did to her self-worth, Alex will use whatever means necessary to convince her they’re meant for each other, including tying her down to make sure he has her full attention while he takes her to the heights of pleasure she’s always dreamed of…

Alex is being sent home on leave against his will because he is injured.  He is looking forward to seeing Tianna again though.  She has been staying at his house since she split from her abusive husband.  He has been in love with her for a long time but he hasn’t been able to tell her.

Tia’s ex-husband is suffering from PTSD and became more abusive than he already was.  She is finally free of him but she still carries the scars of the abuse.  She is attracted to Alex but is afraid to share her deepest fantasies with him.  Her ex always made her feel like something was wrong with her because she needed to be dominated in the bedroom, she couldn’t bear it he Alex felt the same way.

Tia’s self confidence has been shattered by her ex-husband.  She doesn’t feel beautiful or confident in her own skin and she is scared of her sexual needs.  Alex is the perfect person to help her work through her issues.  He is in love with her and doesn’t have a problem with fulfilling her needs in or out of the bedroom.

Alex is a sexy alpha male that gets to show off a little when Tia decides to move into her own apartment.  He is able to show her what has been missing from her life and that it is ok to need it.  Plus we get a sexy guy in uniform, what more could a girl ask for.

I think the author handled Tia’s issues well.  They were addressed but not made light of, and Alex took time to help her work through those issues.  I enjoyed this book and give it 4 Flaming Hearts.

Up Periscope by Roger Frank Selby
* I received this ARC free from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review*

When an attractive female officer helicoptered aboard a submarine at sea triggers the security alarm, just who among the all-male crew is to perform the mandatory full strip-search? It turns out that two marine NCOs are required – but is this something Lieutenant Laura Lacey knows already? Clearly enjoying pulling rank (among other things) a sudden requirement for silent running,” plus a minor medical emergency has Lt Lacey engaged at full stretch with her NCOs, even without her clothes. But is the “”Old Man”” aware of these goings-on aboard his vessel? It turns out that the captain has his own, old-fashioned concept of naval discipline to whip his errant female officer into line.”

As Lt. Laura Lacey is boarding the submarine, she sets out the security alarm.  Per procedure she is subject to a full body search and it is up to two security officers to do it.  During the security check one of the officers is “injured” and the Lt. has to release the pressure building up to prevent further damage.  The other officer takes care of the cavity search and she is cleared to board the sub.

Little did Lt. Lacey know that the strip-search was videotaped and the captain has seen it.  Since they are at sea, the captain has his own way of dealing with her disorderly conduct.  The punishment leaves her wanting more.

Lt. Lacey is boarding a submarine full of men and she has a plan to make her stand out.  She is alone with two men and has to strip naked and decides to use the situation to her advantage.  It was probably the most interesting strip search I have ever heard of.  She never expected the captain to find out her secret.

The story was good but I had trouble following the dialogue at times.  It was hard to tell who was talking and I got a little confused.  The main idea of the story definitely comes through and I loved the little twist at the end.

I give Up Periscope 3 Flaming Hearts.

Lyrical by Victoria Blisse
* I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

Living in a world of lyrics, she sings his song and he is powerless to resist. Peter is held back by a lack of self-confidence and interacts with people as little as he can manage to get away with, that is until willowy Chloe is assigned the desk next to him, she has other ideas. Peter soon gives in to her siren song and lets Chloe seduce him but he just does not know how to deal with this beautiful woman and her lusts. Does Chloe have the patience to teach him to play in harmony with her natural sensuality or will he be forever doomed to a solitary life with only his music for comfort?

Peter lives in his own world.  He is happiest when he is listening to his music and doing his job.  He doesn’t interact very much with his coworkers until Chloe starts working there.  Now he finds himself sharing his lunches with her and having to engage in small talk, which he is terrible at.

I loved this book and could relate to it on several levels.  Peter is more comfortable dealing with numbers than people and loves his music.  He has to come out of his comfort zone when Chloe starts working beside him.  She is beautiful and he is attracted to her but he is socially inept.  He feels he is not attractive because he is overweight and has a hard time believing that she is interested in him.

They connect through music.  It draws them together and Chloe is determined to draw him out of his shell.  She likes big men because they make her feel safe but she can’t convince Peter that she is attracted to him.  He has a hard time taking complements and I can understand that even when they come from a loved one.  If you are uncomfortable in your own skin, you don’t feel pretty or handsome.

I also liked the fact that the tables were turned and it was the woman going after the man she wanted rather than the man pursuing the woman.  Chloe had to work to get Peter to open up to her.  I actually felt sorry for Peter because he has this beautiful woman trying to get to know him and he doesn’t know what to do with her.  The scene in his apartment had some sweet and tender moments.  In the end, through music they managed to make things work.

I enjoyed Lyrical and give it 4 Flaming Hearts.

The Best Mistake by Kate Watterson – Available January 16, 2012
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

When Lacey Billings gives her boyfriend, Ran, an erotic wake-up call in the middle of the night, she’s shocked to discover that the gorgeous man she’s kissing isn’t Ran…it’s his cousin, Rick.

Although Ran laughs off the mix-up, Lacey and Rick can’t stop thinking about the unexpected encounter, and they can’t escape the scorching flashbacks it’s aroused.

Ran doesn’t want an innocent mistake to ruin his relationship with his girlfriend or his cousin, so he proposes a solution. He wants the three of them to solve this problem the old-fashioned way, by sleeping on it…together.

When Lacey’s plane was delayed she decided to rent a car and drive the rest of the way home.  She was tired and decided to go to Ran’s place rather than her own and surprise him.  Little did she know that Ran wasn’t the one sleeping in his bed, his cousin Rick was.

Rick had just come off a sixteen hour shift at the hospital and Ran told him he could crash at the condo.  They weren’t expecting Lacey back until the next day so when he is awakened in a most delicious way, it takes him a few minutes to realize that it’s her.  If he’s honest with himself, he lets the episode go on a little longer than is proper but he can’t seem to make himself stop her.

The mistake is not only causing tension between Lacey and Rick but also between Lacey and Ran.  Neither one can stop thinking about the incident and are uncomfortable around each other.  They are intrigued by Ran’s suggestion to end the tension and to find out if reality is as good as their dreams.

Lacey is mortified when she realizes that Rick is the recipient of her sexy surprise instead of Ran.  She loves Ran and would never be unfaithful to him but she can’t get the episode out of her head.  She is nervous around Rick and can’t even look at him; it makes their dinners very uncomfortable.  She doesn’t know what to do about it either.

Ran is a lawyer and reasons things out.  He knows there is more to the incident between Lacey and Rick than they are saying.  He tries to get them to talk it out but that doesn’t go so well.  He cares about both of them and wants them to get along so he suggests a solution to the problem them will benefit them all.

Rick is another story all together.  He and Ran are more like brothers than cousins and do a lot of stuff together.  They have shared a lot of things over the years but never a woman.  He feels guilty because he can’t stop thinking about Lacey.  He is conflicted when Ran offers him a chance to finish what they started because he knows that it’s not a casual thing.

The three of them are super hot together.  I love how they worked through the initial incident and came up with a solution that they could all live with.  I loved their gesture at the end for Lacey to show her how much they care about her, it was so sweet.

Overall I think the author does a good job of maintaining the tension between the three of them without over doing it.  She handled the situation well.  I give The Best Mistake 3½ Flaming Hearts.

Prowl the Night by Crystal Jordan
* I received a copy of this book from Kensington in exchange for an honest review*

They are Panthers, sleek and sultry shapeshifters who survive by banding together and mating for life. Theirs is a world of unmatched power and uncontrollable passion. . .

Crave Me
As newly appointed heir to his Pride, Tomas Montoya struggles with both his new duties and his new mate. He craves the dark and dangerous pleasure he finds with Ciri but wonders if he can ever satisfy her need for more. . .

Ciri has joined her mate, Tomas in America where he is serving as second in command.  Their honeymoon was cut short when Tomas’ grandfather passed away.  She is not happy in America because she doesn’t really fit in.  She isn’t into politics and she doesn’t agree with the way Antonio runs his pride.

Tomas wants to do a good job as second but in the process he is losing his mate.  He knows that she is not happy and he can feel her slipping away.  He spends so much time on work, it’s hard to make time to do stuff with her and she resents it.  When he can’t accompany her to the art exhibit she wants to see, her and Isabel are attacked.  Unless he can figure out a compromise and balance he is going to lose his mate forever.

Ciri is one of my favorite characters.  She is a strong independent woman that knows what she wants and isn’t willing to give up her identity for Tomas.  She loves him but she isn’t happy living in America.  She is a graphic designer and loves her job and decides that she isn’t going to give it up, even for the Pride.

Tomas is torn between loyalty to the pride and to his mate.  He has been raised to take over the pride and everything he does is a reflection on his pride.  He is good at his job but he seems at a loss at what to do about Ciri.  You feel for him because his heart is in the right place and they seem to care about each other.

I was so happy to see Ciri stand up for herself and fight for what she wanted.  She was willing to fight to keep her identity, as well as her job.  She and Tomas will make a good ruling pair.

Want Me
Teresa Garcia has seen how loving and losing a mate can drive someone mad and she has no interest in experiencing that herself. But when she meets Rafael Santiago, she wants him like no other. Driven by desire, she hungers for his body with a fierce and feral passion. . .

Teresa Garcia is the heir to the Spanish Pride since her brother went mad.  The only way her father would agree to her attending the summit was to tour the Prides looking for her mate.  Teresa has no desire to find her mate after watching her brother lose his mind.  She never expected to find him as soon as she stepped off the plane in America.

Rafael loves the freedom his job as a travel reporter gives him to visit the different prides around the world.  Lately though he has become unsettled and doesn’t know what is causing this feeling.  He plans on spending a few weeks at home with the American pride, hoping that will cure his unease.

From the first moment that Teresa and Rafael touched there were sparks.  They are mates but Teresa isn’t willing to recognize the mate bond.  She thinks she is protecting herself and Rafael by not mating with him.  She saw what her brother went through when he lost his mate and she doesn’t want to put herself or anyone through that agony.

Rafael seems to be a very patient man and his is willing to give Teresa the time she needs.  He is sure that he can win her over to being his mate, he just doesn’t realize the amount of guilt she is carrying with her.  I love that he stands by her and is always there when she needs him but he doesn’t flaunt the fact that they are mates.  The conversation with her father was one of my favorites and it seemed to give him strength not to give up.

Overall I enjoyed both of the stories in Prowl the Night and give it 4 Flaming Hearts.

Pulled Long #3 by Christine D’Abo
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Book 3 of the Long Shots series

For months, coffee shop owner Ian Long has fantasized about a customer he knows only as “Blue Eyes.” Until he learns Blue Eyes is in the midst of a divorce—the last thing Ian wants is to be the rebound experiment of a straight guy. Giving in to lust, he invites the man into the café after hours and they indulge in a little exhibitionist play, but Ian is unwilling to get involved.

When he’s forced to see Jeff again to return his briefcase, Ian finally agrees to go out on a date. Dinner quickly becomes an erotic encounter in a special room at the sex club Mavericks, and Ian realizes Jeff satisfies desires he didn’t know he had. The more he gets to know Jeff as a person, the harder it is to resist falling for him.

Jeff makes it clear he’s interested in more than just sex. He wants to go public with their relationship in more ways than one. But can Ian open his heart, when he fears it will be broken?

Ian has been working extremely hard to make Long Shots a success with the help of his sisters.  They are all working long hours and sacrificing a lot.  Both of his sisters now have men in their lives so he has been working longer hours.  The only bright spot was when “blue eyes” would stop by for coffee but he hasn’t seen him for months.

Ian doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to relationships.  His last boyfriend blamed Ian of turning him gay and went back to his old girlfriend.  When Jeff (blue eyes) reveals that he is in the process of getting divorced, all he can think about is his last breakup.  He’s not strong enough to go through that heartache again.

Jeff is ready to move on with his life now that his divorce is final.  It was not a pretty breakup and she continues to give him grief.  He has been attracted to Ian since the first time he saw him, now if he can only convince Ian to give him a chance.

I loved everything about this book.  This author is fast becoming a favorite of mine and this was my favorite book of the series so far.  Ian seems like such a loving and caring person but he is so messed up.  He has been carrying around the guilt of his father’s accident, the confusion of his ex-boyfriend and all of the stress of running the coffee shop.  He has been one of my favorite characters since he was first introduced and I couldn’t wait for him to find happiness.

“Blue Eyes” has been making appearances since the first book too, flirting with Ian.  The sexual chemistry between these two was evident from the beginning and I knew once they got together they would set the pages on fire.  Boy was I right, the scene in the coffee shop was super hot but it was also tender.  I loved how Jeff didn’t give up on Ian and wouldn’t let him continue to live in the past.

The story was well paced and contained some surprises along the way.  The scene at the end of the party was humorous but sad too.  We were given updates on both of sister’s and what’s going on in their lives and we got to visit with Josh at Mavericks too.  I am looking forward to Josh’s story too.

Overall I loved this installment in the Long Shot series and give Pulled Long 4½ Flaming Hearts.

Naughty for Christmas by Selene Noreen
* I purchased this book from Breathless Press with a gift card I won from them*

For years, Trisha has searched for the perfect man. One who is taller than her and who would dominate her in the bedroom as well as sharing his heart with her.

Hood is clan leader of his planet’s military. His father, king of Zion, is a very dominate man, so it’s no wonder Hood does his father’s bidding and helps St. Nick deliver Christmas presents to Earth.

However, when Hood’s mother poses as a sales clerk and convinces Trisha to buy a huge green dildo, Christmas takes on a whole new meaning. Trisha finds her lover, Hood gets his mate, and Christmas night turns into one full of erotic screams and sexy demands.

Who would’ve thought a giant green dildo could bring Trisha the man of her dreams?

Trisha is prepared to spend Christmas by herself.  She’s got plenty of new toys to keep her occupied.  According to the sales lady, all her dreams are going to come true.  Now the Jolly Green Giant is standing in her apartment claiming she is his mate.

Hood had no desire to go to Earth but his father promised St. Nick that he would help him deliver presents Christmas Eve.  He never realized that with the help of his mother, he was one of the presents that Santa was delivering.  Now that he is there, he can’t believe that he has found the perfect woman for him.

Trisha seems like she has people that care about her but she comes across as lonely.  She has a hard time finding men taller than her and her relationships don’t seem to last long term.  I like the fact that she knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it, even if sex toys are involved.  Hood seems like the perfect match for her, even if he is green.

On the negative side, I have a hard time believing stories where the couple meet and have fallen in love with each other within a few hours time.  However, this is a Christmas tale of love and miracles do come happen this time of year.

Overall I give Naughty for Christmas 3½ Flaming Hearts.
