Bordello Secrets by Heather Whittington
* I received a copy of this book from Breathless Press in exchange for an honest review*

The Master of the ″Votre Bonheur” has a secret. Marie, a penniless, naive young woman, must play the passionate courtesan to discover the shocking truth.

When Marie is tossed out of her home, she takes a position at the “Votre Bonheur,” an upscale bordello in Nice. There she meets Edward Leroye, the handsome, mysterious master of the house, and sparks fly. He awakens a desire and a dislike the naive young woman has never before experienced. When Sarah tells her that the Master holds a secret, Marie decides to discover the truth. Even if it means stripping away her innocence.

Marie’s father is dead and her mom has put her out on the streets.  She has no one to help her so she journeys to Nice to join the women of Votre Bonheur.  She may be young and naïve but she is determined to do what it takes to stay at the bordello.

Master Leroye takes care of his ladies but he expects them to earn their keep to stay at Votre Bonheur.  He spends time with each of the ladies but they never seem to remember their nights with him.  The Master has a secret that he has gone to great lengths to hide, at least until Marie shows up.

Marie is a young, impressionable girl when she arrives.  It doesn’t take long for that to change and she is even more determined to make it work.  She doesn’t know what to make of the Master when she meets him.  He scares her but at the same time, she desires him.  She agrees to dine with him in hopes of finding out what his secret is.

I loved the scene with Marie and Edward when he is telling her his story.  It helped the reader to understand him and why he has done the things he did. Marie may have been naïve but she has a sharp mind and isn’t afraid to say what she thinks.  In the end, I think she has found a new home with the Master at Votre Bonheur.

This story was short but it was short on details.  The author was able to give us a glimpse into a bordello in the 1900’s, complete with details about how it looked down to what was expected from the girls.  It was a fun story that I enjoyed but would have loved to read more.  I give Bordello Secrets 3 Flaming Hearts.

Loving the Beast (Fairy Tales Unleashed) by Naima Simone
* I received a copy of this book from Breathless Press in exchange for an honest review*

Left scarred and bitter, he demands her body and desires her heart. But could she come to love a beast?

Gwendolyn Sinclair needs help. And the one person who can give her the aid she urgently requires is exacting a high price.

Desperate to keep the neighborhood community center open, Gwendolyn seeks out Xavier St. James, her childhood friend and the brother of her dead fiance. Xavier’s family foundation possesses the funds necessary to keep the center open, but instead he offers a bargain—a devil’s bargain: submit her body for his pleasure for seven days, and the building doesn’t close its doors.

Left scarred from an accident, Xavier is bitter, resentful, and alone. When Gwendolyn reappears in his life, need and loneliness override conscience, and he proposes an arrangement she can’t afford to refuse. With the woman he has always wanted but could never have finally in his bed, he hungers for more. Her heart. But could she come to love a beast?

Gwen has been friends with Joshua and Xavier since she was a young girl.  They grew up together playing at the community center in her neighborhood and they were there for her throughout high school and college.  She was engaged to Joshua but her heart has always belonged to Xavier.

First Xavier loses his brother in a senseless car wreck then he and his father are in a horrific crash that takes his father’s life and leaves his face severely disfigured.  His finance left him because of his accident and all of his “friends” avoid him.  He is a lonely, bitter man that hides behind his scars.

Gwen has been trying to get into contact with Xavier for the last few weeks.  The community center they all played in as children is in danger of being shut down if she doesn’t find funding.  She applied for a grant through his foundation but was denied and he’s her last hope.  She makes a deal with the devil knowing she may be walking away without her heart.

Xavier doesn’t know what possessed him to make the deal with Gwen.  He has dreamed about her for years, even while she was engaged to his brother.  This is his chance to get her in his bed but can he keep her there?

Gwen is a strong and independent woman.  She is not afraid to fight for something she believes in.  She also loves with everything in her heart.  I loved that about her.  She told herself that she accepted Xavier’s bargain for the community center but later admits the real reason she’s there is for Xavier.

Xavier is one of my favorite types of hero’s, tortured.  He lost his brother and father and now his finance has left him.  He is alone but he won’t let anyone in because he doesn’t want their pity.  He is rude and crass and pushes people away.  Over the course of the story, we see him start to have hope and believe in love again.  Gwen shows him kindness, not pity but she is not afraid to tell him he is being a jerk either.

My favorite fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast and the spin on this novella is no different.  I was impressed with the completeness of the story; all the loose ends were tied up and the main characters had resolution.  The author delved into several taboo topics such as interracial dating and socioeconomic issues.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and give Loving the Beast 4 Flaming Hearts.

Paramourtal:Tales of Undying Love and Loving the Dead – Anthology
* I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Paramour: a lover. Paramortal: a supernatural being. Together, they are Paramourtal, a collection of powerful paranormal romance stories by ten of the most talented writers today. Suspenseful, heartwarming and scary as hell, they’ll grip your heart and haunt you for days.

Paramourtal is a collection of short stories that feature everything from the Sandman to Selkies to Fairies.  Over all it is a good selection of stories that were very entertaining.

Some of my favorite stories were Dark Legacy where love conquers all.  Katherine and her husband are in love and her cousin is jealous.  Julia’s husband left her but she is convinced he will come back to her.  She doesn’t want to fulfill her prophecy and tries to trick Katherine into doing it for her.

Another favorite was His Familiar Touch.  I’ve read other stuff by LK Below and was excited to see one of her stories in this collection.  Shifters are some of my favorite stories and I loved this one.  Rikkita has led a sheltered life but can’t shift.  When she finds out why she can’t shift, it causes her emotions to be all over the place.  With the help of Derek, she learns the joys of shifting and finds love.

My absolute favorite was The Underlying Beat.  There were so many elements that made this story work.  Both of the main characters carry so much guilt from an incident that happened during college.  Neither one of them have actually been living, they are really just going through the motions.  With the help of a nosy ghost they find their way to each other and find forgiveness in the process.

There are so many great stories in this book it’s hard to pick out just a few.  A brief synopsis of each story can be found below if you want more information.  Overall I enjoyed this book and give Paramourtal 4 Flaming Hearts.

A Touch of Sand by Nicole Brugger-Dethmers:  Angeline is in love with Nicholas but he is just the kitchen boy.  His love for her saves her from the Sandman when he takes her to his castle, in hopes of making her smile again.  He realizes that Nicholas is the one that makes her smile and sends them on their way.
Dark Legacy by Elizabeth Ireland:  Katherine and her cousin Julia met at the lake house to clean it out after her grandmother passed away.  While there, Julia tells her the story of the guardian of the lake and that it’s someone from their family.  Little does she know that Julia has plans for Katherine that could put an end to her and Patrick’s happiness?

The Fisherman’s Wife by K. Stoddard Hayes:   Sean and his father have been hiding something from his wife for 10 years and the guilt is killing him.  He is afraid that when she discovers their secret, she will walk out of their lives, his fears are becoming reality.  When Mireen returns to them revitalized, he realizes how much damage he was done over the years.  He offers her his heart, freedom and a solution that they can both live with.

The Prince and The Spoon by Kelly Wisdom:   Summer loves Tar River Park; it’s the place she goes when she wants to relax.  It had been a week since she broke up with her boyfriend and she was lonely.  She never expected to meet Hunter or the other creatures from the fairy realm, while she was out walking the trails.  She was introduced to a whole new world and finds a kindred spirit that loves the park as much as she does.

The Flower of Hell by Noree Cosper:
Gabby has been searching for the demon that cursed her many years ago.  She is destined to lose anyone close to her and always be alone, unless she kills the one that cursed her.  She makes it her mission in life to kill any demon she finds.  She wants a family and Dimitri is the first person that makes her feel alive again.  He vows that together they will find he demon and end her curse.

His Familiar Touch by L.K. Below:  Rikkita is a female cougar that can’t shift because she is a witch’s familiar.  She sets out to find the witch so they can help her shift but in the process she meets Derek.  He is sexy and very male and she is drawn to him like no other man.  He tries to show her that witches aren’t as bad as she thinks and that she could have a future with her witch if she wanted.  In the end, she is more than happy to share her life with her witch and stand by his side.

Of Fate and Fire byRebecca Rhielle: Eleia’s family was killed when she was a little girl and she was found by the Rescuers and raised as part of their family.  She has always known she was different, she just didn’t realize her true calling.  Aurelius makes her blood sing like no other.  Cryptic words from the elder begin to make sense as she approaches her 18th birthday and she has to make a crucial decision about her future.

Sympathy From The Devil by M.C. DeMarco: Ariel is a guardian angel but it seems that she is having trouble with her beliefs.  While watching over Matt for awhile and she is concerned that he is going to give in and leave with the tempting woman sitting beside him.  As it turns out, Forcas (a fallen angel/demon) is responsible for the woman and offers Aerial a chance to save her soul but can they live with the costs.

The Underlying Beat by Evelyn Welle:
Megan can’t believe that music composer Lee Ching agreed to work collaborate with some string musicians on his next album.  The only person allowed into his word is Megan and she is drawn to his music and the underlying beat of the music.  Little does she know that there are underlying forces working to get her and Lee together?  Both feel responsible for the death of a college cheerleader that they are connected to and it’s up to her to show them the way.

Rain by Kevin Hosey: After his wife serves him with divorce papers, Kyle escapes to the cabin he bought a year ago.  The cabin looks like it could be straight out of one of his horror novels.  While walking through the woods he gets lost and Reanna appears out of nowhere.  She’s like nothing he’s ever seen before, ethereal, beautiful and mysterious.  She has a secret that could be detrimental to Kyle; he doesn’t find out about it until it’s too late.

The Arcane by Mur Rathbun
* I received a copy of this book from Breathless Press in exchange for an honest review*

Summoned to earth by a witch, demon prince Adame must survive and return to his own world in time to battle for his throne…but that means leaving his witch behind.

Roseline hasn’t had the best of luck with magick. When she accidentally summons a demon prince to earth, things spiral out of control. Her coven wants to banish him, his rival sends assassins to kill him, his brothers are hunting him, and she has to figure out how to send him back where he belongs in time to battle his sadistic cousin for the throne. The last thing she expects is to fall in love with him.

Adame, enraged at being summoned and enslaved by a witch just days before the tournament for the throne of the underworld, finds himself falling in love with the witch. Though he doesn’t want to leave her, he knows he must. The fate of both planes hangs in the balance.

Roseline has been with her coven for the last couple of years.  Every time she tries something, it seems to go awry and they don’t have any faith in her.  Things are off in the world and Roseline is using a family spell to see if she can find out what is causing the chaos.  She is expecting information in some form; she just didn’t expect it to be in the form of a sexy demon.

Adame is a demon prince and his cousin is trying everything he can to make sure that Adame doesn’t show up for the tournament on Samhain.  He and his cousin Craven are the two strongest demons and they will be competing to replace The Arcane, the ruler of their world.  Adame is determined to get home in time to save his world and not end up enslaved by the witch.

Roseline can’t believe this super sexy demon is under her control.  She doesn’t know what happened but now she has to figure out how to send Adame back without banishing him completely.  While going through her grandfather’s chests, she finds out that she is not just a witch; she is a demonologist like him.  He was killed before he got to train her in the ancient art but apparently he was a very powerful demonologist in his own right.

Adame needs to get home if he is going to win and set things right in his own world, decreasing the chaos on earth.  He is having trouble concentrating on the task at hand though because he can’t stop thinking about Roseline.  He is attracted to her and can’t seem to control himself when he is with her.  When she is in danger, the only thing going through his mind is “mine” and his protective instincts start to kick in.

Roseline has always felt that she was different.  She never really fit in with the coven but her friend Ashley encouraged her to stay.  When she summoned Adame, things changed for her.  She started to gain more confidence in her abilities.  She was able to find out more about her past through her grandfather’s books and journals and hoped to find the spell she needed to send Adame home.

Adame is super sexy and I kept waiting on the two of them to hook up.  The sexual chemistry was there from the beginning between them.  They make a good team and I would love to see a follow up story about them to see how things turned out after the tournament.

This was a fun story with plenty of action.  Overall I enjoyed it and give The Arcane 4 flaming hearts.

Pixie’s Passion Book 4 in Moonlight & Magic by Mina Carter
* This ebook is part of my personal library*

When a pixie wishes for a family and home, he just might get it… and then some.

Local businesses are asked to provide dates for Northfield Hospital’s Christmas charity auction and Cy is not happy about being on display.  He is the only male available from Moonlight & Magic so he’s the lucky candidate.

Teresa and her co-worker Joanie are enjoying the bachelor auction when she locks eyes with Cy, everything else disappears.  She is stunned when she realizes that she won the date with him, thanks to her friend Joanie.  She has given up on men after she found out her ex husband cheated on her.

Cy is a pixie and all he wants is a family of his own.  His family clan has been removed from his wrist, erased from pixie memory forever leaving him clan less.  He can’t get the woman from the auction out of his mind and dreams.  If only the winner from the auction was that woman but he can’t be that lucky, can he?

Teresa is the mother of two, who doesn’t have a very positive self image of herself.  She can’t believe someone like Cy would be interested in being with her.  He is bad boy personified and she is drawn to him even though she has given up on men.  On their date, he shows her what’s she’s been missing and makes her body sing.

I like Cy’s character, he is a super sexy, bad boy but underneath he’s an old softy.  His only luxury is his car but I think he would even give that up for a chance at a family.  He has the chance at a new family if things go well between him and Teresa.

My biggest problem with the book was that it ended.  This was a short story set in the world of the Moonlight & Magic series and I would have loved to see more of Cy and Teresa.  I want to know if things work out for them, how do Cy and her kids get along and will Cy get the family he wants so badly.  I honestly only have one minor complaint about the story, there were several places that the editing needed some help.

Overall I really enjoyed this story so much I went to Amazon to find the first three books in this series.  I give Pixie’s Passion 4 Flaming Hearts.

Three Over Par by Cathryn Brunet
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
Wild, hot, addictive sex…
After seeing one too many patients die regretting the things they haven’t done, Nurse Lucy Seymour realizes she’s been making the same mistake. So when Robbie, the sexy golf instructor, makes his move, she responds with uninhibited passion, telling him there’s nothing she won’t try. Long sessions of foreplay lead to thrills and fantasy fulfillment…until Lucy sees Daniel, the greenskeeper, watching them. Watching her. And then Daniel does more than just watch…he joins them.
Can it lead to love?
Lucy might be exploring all of her secret fantasies, but her reality is that she’s a one-man woman…and for her, that man is Daniel. But what does Daniel really want? Lucy or the fantasy?

Lucy makes a promise to a dying patient that she would live her life and not have any regrets.  After a particular hard week at the Nursing Home, Lucy’s decides to take advantage of the opportunity before her.  The golf pro puts the moves on her during her lesson and things will never be the same again.

Lucy enjoys her weekly encounters with the golf pro but they don’t compare to when Daniel joins them.  With their first kiss, she fell in love with him.  He is her sole focus when the three of them are together and she cherishes each encounter.  With each passing week she falls deeper in love with him and thinks he feels the same way towards her.

She is puzzled by his attitude outside the golf course though.  When he comes to the nursing home to take his grandmother to lunch, he seems polite but distant towards her.  She begins to think she is reading more into their encounters than is really there and makes a decision that will change all three of their lives.

The primary focus of the book is the relationship between Lucy and Robbie (the Pro).  It’s all about sex with them while they are together on the golf course.  They take advantage of every opportunity they have and enjoy each other, even adding Daniel as a third later on.  It’s just sex to Lucy but Robbie has fallen in love with her.  The underlying story is the love that Lucy feels for Daniel and the ups and downs that is their relationship.

Lucy is a kind hearted person that wears her heart on her sleeve.  She is a good nurse and cares deeply for her patients, maybe too much sometimes.  She takes the advice of one of them and decides to live life to the fullest with no regrets.  She wants a traditional relationship with Daniel but she is afraid that if she ends the weekly golf lessons that she will lose him too.

The book was a little distracting to me.  The story is told from Lucy’s point of view but jumps around some so I would get lost at times.  The main thing that distracted me was the language used, don’t get me wrong it didn’t hurt the story any though.  I just found it a little stilting and hard to get used to every time she used the word arse.

The author did redeem herself with the ending however.  I love how the three of them put everything on the line for love.  Robbie did what he did out of love for Lucy, even though he knew how she felt about him.  Lucy laid it all on the line with Daniel afraid of how he would respond but knowing this was her one chance at happiness.

Overall I give Three Over Par 3 Flaming Hearts.

The Gift of Shayla by NJ Walters
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

One night to indulge their wildest desires…

Adam Lancaster has been in love with Rob McKeith—and attracted to Rob’s wife, Shayla—for years, but he fears their friendship would be over if they knew the truth. So he’s thrilled when his secret fantasy becomes reality and the couple offers him a very special gift: a sensual Christmas Eve in their bedroom…

Rob and Shayla are happily married and love each other very much.  Shayla knows that something is missing from Rob’s life and sets things in motion to give him what he needs.  In the process, Shayla gets to fulfill her ultimate fantasy of being with two men.

Rob and Adam have been best friends since they were children.  They have experienced all the major milestones together, from their first cigarettes to puberty.  They even designed and built their houses next door to each other.  Adam has been in love with Rob since they were teenagers but never acted on it because of their friendship.  Now Rob has taken the first step to give Adam everything he has ever wanted.

Shayla loves her husband with all her heart but she has grown to love Adam as well.  She sees how Adam looks at Rob and she aches for him.  She realizes that Rob feels the same way toward Adam and is willing to share her husband to make him happy.

To Adam, this present was more important to him than he is willing to admit.  He loves them both and would never do anything to hurt their relationship, so he tries to proceed with caution.  With one scorching kiss from Rob, all of his good intentions went out the door.

Rob is drawn to Adam but he has never acted on it; he doesn’t desire any other men, just Adam.  He thought his feelings would go away when he married Shayla but they didn’t.  They are always there between them.  When Shayla offers him this chance to explore these feelings, he feels like the luckiest man on earth.  Not many wives would let their husband invite another man into the bedroom to play.

Even though this is just a brief glimpse into their lives, this trio gives us plenty to see.  They are super hot together, while maintaining the warmth and love they have for each other.  They fit together and fill a need that each of them wouldn’t or couldn’t admit was there.  They complete each other and make a complete circle.

I think the author did an excellent job of portraying the love between these characters.  Their relationship has a natural flow to it makes sense because they are basically inseparable.  It’s natural that they would develop feelings for each other. Then you add Shayla into the mix and she is a natural fit.

Overall I really liked this short story and give The Gift of Shayla 4 Flaming Hearts.
